Board Service with Dress for Success Denver
Role / Tools:
Board Member / Partnership Development, Marketing Strategy, Community Engagement, Event Support
Objective:
Support Dress for Success Denver’s mission through strategic board service, bringing my background in marketing, partnerships and community engagement to help expand awareness, strengthen programming and create meaningful connections with Denver businesses and community partners.
Approach:
As a member of the Dress for Success Denver Board of Directors, I contribute to initiatives that extend beyond traditional board governance, with a particular focus on opportunities where marketing, partnerships and community engagement can strengthen the organization’s impact.
My involvement has included supporting signature events, identifying potential community and corporate partners, contributing ideas for sponsorship opportunities and participating in programming that connects directly with the women Dress for Success Denver serves.
One of the most valuable parts of board service has been learning to approach marketing from the perspective of a nonprofit organization, where successful ideas must balance mission impact, organizational capacity, community relationships and sustainable funding.
Contributions:
Support for signature fundraising and community events, including annual fashion show programming
Influencer and community outreach to expand event awareness and attendance
Identification and outreach to potential in-kind and auction partners
Development of sponsorship and partnership concepts connecting businesses with DFSD programming
Participation in Professional Women’s Group programming and other mission-focused events
Strategic input informed by professional experience in marketing, partnerships and community engagement
What I’m Learning
Serving on the board has expanded my understanding of how marketing and partnerships can support an organization beyond traditional promotion.
The strongest nonprofit partnerships create value in multiple directions: they advance the organization’s mission, provide meaningful opportunities for corporate partners and—most importantly—create tangible benefits for the community being served.
Board service has also given me an opportunity to apply my professional experience in a different environment while learning from leaders across industries throughout Denver. It has reinforced my interest in work that sits at the intersection of business strategy, community building and meaningful impact.
